Common Allocation Policy

Caerphilly County Borough Council is working with housing association partners to review its existing Common Allocation Policy; with the aim of making it easier for people to apply for social housing whilst also helping to address the housing crisis. 

The review is expected to be completed by the end 2024 and a new policy will be prepared.  Those people affected by the introduction of a new policy will have the opportunity to let the Council know their views during a consultation exercise, which will take place during the summer. The new policy will need to be agreed by the Council before being implemented in early 2025.

Local Letting Policies

Properties let through the common housing register may be subject to a local lettings policy. Such policies place either a restriction on who may be considered for a property or provide criteria which prioritise certain groups of people. They must be evidence based and time-bound, and are used to address a particular problem.

Details of when a local lettings policy can be used by a landlord are included in section 4 of the common allocation policy.
