Patricia Griffiths from Abercarn has found a new path to employment with help from Communities First.

After being made redundant from her job of 27 years, former cleaner Patricia wanted to explore other fields of work. Her first step was to attend the Job Fair at Blackwood Miners’ Institute, (organised by Bridges into Work 2), during which Patricia made contact with the Communities First Employment Officer. After enrolling with Communities First, Patricia completed a number of courses including; food hygiene, first aid at work, manual handling, fire safety and health and safety.

Patricia also received support in improving her C.V. and was given opportunities to update and expand her interview sills, which was of particular importance due to the length of time she had remained with the same employer. Patricia also attended accredited level 2 I.T. courses to develop her computer literacy.

Following the support and guidance provided to Patricia by Communities First, Patricia enrolled with local recruitment consultants Staff 24/7 and as a result was offered a full time job with Mollertech, who specialise in manufacturing car parts.

Patricia was delighted to have been offered the role with Mollertech and commented: “I am really happy in this role and have enjoyed my time back in work. After a period of time out of work, it feels great to go back to normality and to have the added incentive of meeting new people, learning new skills and being able to buy nice things”.

Cllr Lisa Phipps, Cabinet Member for Homes and Places said: “Communities First provides valuable support and resources to residents through a number of programmes including LIFT and Bridges into Work.  I am delighted that this support and training has enabled Patricia to enter into a new career that the thoroughly enjoys.”
