Adoption - Families Forever

Welcome

Every year, about 2,000 children in care are adopted in Wales and England. Caerphilly County Borough Council are always looking for adoptive families. Becoming an adoptive parent requires flexibility, patience, understanding, sensitivity, commitment and dedication to the welfare of the child or children you adopt.

What is Adoption?

Adoption is the legal process by which children who cannot be brought up by their own birth relatives become a full and permanent member of a new family. Adoption means the permanent transfer of parental responsibility to the adoptive parents following a court order.

Adoption is about meeting the long term needs and interests of children in order to provide them with security, stability and permanence. The Adoption Agencies and Courts are required by law to ensure that the childrens' needs are the paramount consideration in any decision made.

New legislation, the Adoption and Children Act 2002, governs current Adoption practice. There is procedural guidance for Post Adoption Support packages and for Inter Country Adoption.
