Concern about elder abuse in the community was highlighted at two recent events held in the Caerphilly county borough.
Caerphilly county borough council's Protection of Vulnerable Adults Team organised a special information day at Caerphilly Visitors Centre. The event was a huge success with many shoppers calling in to recieve information about the Protection of Vulnerable Adult's service, Gwent Police, Social Services and many others. Over 250 information bags were given out to local people on the day.
A separate event was held at the Penallta House council offices in Ystrad Mynach for council staff. Over £500 was raised through selling of home made cakes and a raffle, which was almost double the amount raised last year.
The events were held to coincide with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
A range of agencies were involved including Social Services, Gwent Police, Disability CANDO Advocacy, Age Concern Advocacy, Stroke Association, Adult Services Duty Information Team and the Safer Caerphilly Multi Agency Centre. Representatives from each agency were on hand to give advice in a friendly and informal setting.
If you suspect that a vulnerable adult is being subjected to any form of abuse please contact the council's Adult Services Duty Information Team on 0808 100 2500.
