Anthony O'Sullivan, Caerphilly County Borough Council's Chief Executive has welcomed news from the Welsh Assembly Government that Bargoed is set to benefit from £3.172 million for a large scale retail scheme to go ahead.

"This is wonderful news for Bargoed. The announcement will be welcomed by everyone who has worked so hard to bring this scheme to fruition as it has been a real partnership effort. Bargoed is undergoing a transformation at the moment thanks to a wide range of regeneration schemes aimed at breathing new life into the town centre - and this exciting retail development really is the icing on the cake."

The funding from the Heads of the Valleys Regeneration Area programme has been allocated to Caerphilly County Borough Council to help it deliver phase one of the Bargoed Retail Development. The project will see the development of an anchor food store with Petrol Filling Station, seven retail units and associated car parking and public realm facilities.

A leading supermarket has agreed to lease the anchor store, which will help to attract other retailers to the development.
