2011 saw a bumper year at Caerphilly County Borough visitor attractions with Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Nelson seeing a massive 29% increase in visitors.
A combination of large events and an increase in visitors touring the Manor House both during the day and evening for Ghost Tours have boosted visitor numbers. Llancaiach Fawr has become a well-known venue for events and days out with its portfolio of services widened over recent years, now boasting first class wedding packages including ceremonies and excellent conference facilities.
Cwmcarn Forest in the Nantcarn Valley continues to attract walkers, cyclists and campers with its visitor numbers increasing to over 192,000 compared to 178,000 in 2010.
With 3 superb mountain bike trails, contemporary visitor centre, café and new extended car park, it provides a great base for a day out for all the family. With the introduction of 3 new 'glamping' pods in spring last year and upgrading camping facilities to Visit Wales 4 star grading, Cwmcarn's achievements continue to grow. With increasing demands of people wanting to sample the outdoor life in the pods, a further 6 more will be installed by this Easter, all with lighting, electric and heating.
Caerphilly Castle continues to attract visitors from all over the world and saw a 4% increase in visitors in 2011. Caerphilly County Borough Council and Cadw continue to strengthen its partnership and develop events in Caerphilly. With The Big Cheese and Caerphilly's Medieval Christmas Fayre attracting thousands of visitors, Caerphilly Castle's inclusion in these events is fundamental and adds value to the visitor experience.
The Winding House in New Tredegar developed its events programme over the past year and saw an increase in visitor numbers.
The fascinating exhibition 'Nights out in the Valleys' attracted many visitors and items were loaned to the museum for the exhibition. With a 22% increase in visitor numbers in 2011, The Winding House is looking forward to another successful year with a full events programme and new 'The Titanic, the Mill & The Signal - Artie Moore and Titanic's SOS' exhibition, launching on 6th April to mark 100 years since the sinking of the iconic liner.
