    Tree planting at Highfields

Officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council's Environmental Services joined forces with the Community Payback team and pupils from Blackwood Primary School recently to give an area of land at Highfields in Blackwood a new lease of life!

The team took advantage of the recent dry weather and spruced up a green space in the centre of a new housing development, which was originally a farmstead featuring natural hedgerows.

To help encourage wildlife back to the area, the tree planted large areas of the land with native welsh tree species.

Mark Williams, Head of Public Services at Caerphilly County Borough Council said, "It was fantastic that the pupils of Blackwood Primary School got involved in this environmental project – their enthusiasm is inspiring and reinforces our commitment to having pride in our public spaces. This popular residential area will now have its own corridor of nature to boost local wildlife while helping to make the area look even more attractive".
