>Why not come along to the Winding House this Wednesday (14th March) for a fascinating talk on the local area's early industrial history?
'Iron in the Soul and Wire in the Blood – The coming of the Iron Industry to Gwent' by John Evans, a former Cardiff University lecturer will explore the area's early iron industry.
The talk starts at 7pm and afterwards, the magnificent winding engine will be in action. Visitors will also have the chance to speak to the volunteers who care for the engine.
The Winding House is built on the site of the former Elliot Colliery. The museum's centre-piece is the original Victorian winding engine. This remarkable machinery was used to operate the cages which transported men and coal between the surface and the mine below.
Admission is free but booking is essential. For more information or to book a place, please call 01443 822 666 or visit www.windinghouse.co.uk
