Planning application submitted for Oakdale wind turbines

    02 August 2011

    Wind turbines

A full planning application has been submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC) for the development of two wind turbines on land at Oakdale Business Park.

Renewable energy developer Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) is proposing the project on land which is owned by CCBC.

Jerry Sturman, Regional Manager at PfR,commented:

"We have now completed all the environmental and technical studies on the site, which have been confirmed our belief that the area is suitable for wind energy development. We believe the land is suitable for two turbines which could generate around 11 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity every year - enough to power 2,400 homes.*

"As part of our on-going consultation programme we will be holding another public exhibition now that we have submitted our plans. This will offer community members an opportunity to view the planning application and associated document, and share any questions or comments with the project team. It will also offer another chance to see photomontages which show how the turbines would look in the landscape from various recognised viewpoints."

As part of the development process the possibility of feeding electricity directly to local businesses based at the business park is being explored. This would ensure that as well as contributing towards national targets, the turbines will benefit communities and businesses locally, by providing reduced price electricity.

An exhibition to share the proposed plans and give local community members the chance to view the planning application will be held on Friday, 5 August at Oakdale Community Centre Penrhiw Avenue, Oakdale, Blackwood Gwent, NP12 0NH from 3pm to 6.30pm.

The complete planning application and all accompanying documents are available to read or download either via the project website at www.pfr.co.uk/oakdale or from the planning section web pages planning reference number: 11/0552/FULL

Hard copies will also be available at the Planning Department of Caerphilly County Borough Council or at Oakdale Library. If anyone is unable to attend the exhibition but has queries or comments they can contact us by phone on 0800 731 7395 or email community@pfr.co.uk

For more information about the project please visit the Partnership for Renewables website

    * Please note: The environmental benefit figures are based on: two, 2.5 megawatt turbines with a total installed capacity of 5MW, operating with a 25% capacity factor; average household electricity use of 4,602kWh per annum; and the electricity generated displacing electricity generated from CCGT / average fuel mix - approximately 430gCO2/kWh'.
