Ysgol Penalltau is set to open its doors to pupils in September. The school, which is a Welsh medium primary school, has been built at Cwm Calon near Ystrad Mynach and was jointly funded by the developer Redrow.

The school cost over £3 million to complete and can accommodate up to 240 pupils. The school is of a modern fit for purpose design and provides for a main hall, library, 2 further resource areas and 8 classrooms.

The school will initially open for the infant phase only, then extend to become a 3-11 primary school from September 2010. One of the classrooms from September 2010 is intended for children with special educational needs, allowing these children to be educated through the language of their choice.

"I am delighted that the Council is opening Ysgol Penalltau this September," said cabinet member Cllr. Phil Bevan. "The new school will provide pupils with an excellent teaching and learning environment and will meet the increasing demand for Welsh medium education for years to come" he added.
