Medieval Madness is set to hit Caerphilly Town Centre this weekend (Sat 11th and Sun 12th December) as the Medieval Christmas Fayre comes to town.
Visitors will get the chance to see medieval dancers, jesters, knights, sword fighting and, of course, Father Christmas. There will also be cookery demonstrations, children's workshops and funfair rides - it's going to be a truly memorable event for people of all ages.
Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration and planning said, "The Caerphilly Medieval Christmas Fayre looks set to be a fantastic weekend of celebration offering something for the whole family and I would encourage everyone to go along and soak up the festive atmosphere. As an added bonus this year, I'm delighted that, following our discussions with CADW they have agreed to allow children to enter the castle for FREE over the whole weekend."
This year will see record numbers of food and craft stalls at the event, with over 150 traders lining the castle walls, Caerphilly town centre, Caerphilly Visitor Centre, the Twyn car park and the Twyn Community Centre. With farmer's produce, continental food and crafts, local traders and the more unusual medieval gifts, there should certainly be enough variety for shoppers to fill their stockings.
In addition to the food and craft stalls the town centre offers a mix of independent and chain stores, as well as a selection of cafes and public houses, providing you with an opportunity to have a well-earned rest from the hustle and bustle of this busy market. Hoping to make this year's event even more special is the scheduled opening of the Caerphilly Indoor Market. Closed for over a decade, it is anticipated that the reopening of the indoor market will coincide with the Medieval Christmas Fayre on 11th December. The indoor market is set to be a real boost for the top end of Caerphilly Town Centre, and with other activities planned for this area during the event, including animal displays on Pentrebane Street; it should really increase trade in the town.
"The re-launch of the indoor market is a major boost for the town centre and I'm delighted to be invited to help officially open this new attraction on this very special weekend," added Cllr Davies.
