An operation in Oakdale is underway to combat anti-social behaviour around the area of Oakdale Recreation Ground.
Over the last couple of weeks, the Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased their patrols of the area on Friday nights - the time of the week when residents highlight that the problems increase.
They have arrested five individuals for various offences including public order offences, conducted seven stop and searches and made three Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) referrals.
Over the next few weeks, local Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers will be further increasing their patrols along with Caerphilly Council's Community Safety Wardens.
Anti-social behaviour in Oakdale Recreation Ground is one of the current Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) priorities for the Penmaen ward.
Neighbourhood Officer for Penmaen, PC Kristian Herridge, said: "Our operation to date has shown that there are a small number of individuals who are causing anti-social behaviour around Oakdale Recreation Ground. By working with Safer Caerphilly and Caerphilly Council over the next few weeks, we hope to further tackle anti-social behaviour and other issues such as underage drinking."
Blackwood Neighbourhood Sergeant Jonothan Harris, said: "This latest operation in Oakdale is being held to address a PACT priority that has clearly been highlighted by residents as a local issue. I have recently taken up the role of the Blackwood Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant and I am keen to ensure that we continue to listen to the concerns of the public and proactively address those issues."
Caerphilly County Borough Council's CCTV operators along with the Community Safety Wardens will also play an important role in ensuring the success of the operation.
Community Safety Manager, Howard Rees said, "Combating anti social behaviour is one of the key strategic priorities of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership. Through targeted operations such as the one to be carried out in Oakdale, we are putting out a unified message that anti social behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities. The forthcoming operation by Gwent Police, in partnership with Caerphilly council's CCTV operators and Community Safety Wardens shows just this."
The next PACT meeting for Penmaen will be held on Tuesday 27th May at 6:30pm at the Oakdale Community Centre.
Addressing local PACT priorities is just one of the functions of the 135 Neighbourhood Policing Teams in operation across Gwent, which are currently celebrating their first anniversary.
