>A successful project providing support to young mothers across the Caerphilly county borough is on the move from Caerphilly to Blackwood.
The Young Mums Project targets young mothers and expectant mums under the age of nineteen. The scheme supports, guides and educates those involved, offering a safe and confidential environment to interact with peers in the same situation as themselves.
A special event took place recently to mark the end of the scheme being based at St Ilan Community Education Centre and to celebrate the achievements of the Young Mums Project. Individuals were presented with certificates acknowledging their commitment to the project and celebrating their success.
The achievements included attending courses in personal development, first aid, cookery skills and also confidence and motivation building, pottery and beauty sessions in conjunction with Genesis. The young mums were also recognised for their positive attitudes and were presented with certificates for making positive steps for their future.
Melanie Davies, Young Mums Project Coordinator, said, "I would like to thank all partners involved in providing these learning opportunities for the young mums - especially Genesis. We are now looking forward to the new term at the new base in Blackwood Youth Centre."
The young mums project also celebrated another successful year for GCSEs. A total of 16 GCSE exams were taken resulting in 10 grades of C and above.
