Families get ready to light up Caerphilly

    Lantern parades

People of all ages flocked to Caerphilly Leisure centre over the weekend to make their own special lantern ready for this year's River of Light Parade.

The first set of FREE lantern-making workshops took place on Saturday and Sunday when over 240 colourful lanterns were created in preparation for the popular festive parade later this month (Thursday 22nd December).

The workshops provided a great escape from the cold weather as past paraders and newcomers alike came together to work on their lanterns.

This year's theme - 'Magic and Wizardry' - proved to be really popular making Saturday and Sunday's workshops extremely busy. This coming weekend sees the second set of workshops take place at Caerphilly Leisure Centre from 10am until 5pm on both days.

Why not make a lantern then pop into Caerphilly Town afterwards and join in with the 'Medieval Madness' that will be taking place over at the town centre. Entertainment for all will be provided in the town centre and castle, with children's workshops, jesters, animal displays, Father Christmas and not forgetting the 150 food and craft traders.

For more information on the lantern workshops and the Caerphilly Medieval Christmas Fayre, as well as the other christmas events and lantern activities taking place in the county borough, visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/christmas or contact Caerphilly Visitor Centre on 029 2088 011.
