Medieval Madness Takes Over Caerphilly Town

    Medieval Madness is set to hit Caerphilly Town Centre on 10th and 11th December as the Medieval Christmas Fayre comes to town.

    They will be medieval dance, jesters, knights, sword fighting along with Father Christmas, children's workshops and funfair rides, there is so much to see and do, it is going to be a truly memorable day out for all the family.

    Embrace yourself for a weekend of medieval fun and frolics. Foodies will be in their element as the annual Caerphilly Medieval Christmas Fayre fills Caerphilly town centre and castle with stands overflowing with seasonal produce fit for a king's table. Visitors can browse the medieval market, filled with authentic traders, or sup ale in the medieval tavern. Watch out for the pickpockets, beggars, scoundrels and thieves, join in with the hue and cry and when one is caught, it's the stocks for them!

    As the spirit of a medieval Christmas settles on Caerphilly's unique and colourful town, there will be an abundance of attractions for visitors of all ages to see. Food and craft stalls line the high street and castle walls, with over 120 high quality traders displaying their wares. Fun activities and entertainment will enhance the annual fayre bringing fantastic colour and excitement to caerphilly with a special visit from Father Christmas.

    Standard admission charges apply on entrance to the castle, one of the Great Medieval castles of Western Europe, although much of the entertainment around the town is free. This event is growing every year with visitors from near and far, so make sure you join in the fun!

    In addition to the food and craft stalls the town centre offers a mix of independent and chain stores, as well as a selection of cafes and public houses, providing you with an opportunity to have a well-earned rest from the hustle and bustle of this busy market.

    In addition to the daytime Medieval Fayre Caerphilly Castle will be welcoming Iluminata, one of the most spectacular digital light and sound shows around, over three nights on Friday 9, 10 and 11 December. As darkness falls, the castle's walls of the inner ward will be bathed in light, creating an amazing feast for the senses. Images and sounds depicting centuries of this iconic stronghold's history will appear almost magically in front of you. What's more it's free, with two showings each night at 5.30pm & 6.30pm.

    Bored of the usual Christmas party? Fancy holding one in a Castle? Then in addition to Illuminata there will be a series of medieval banquets on 9, 10 and 11 December in the Great Hall. You'll be guaranteed a belly laugh and a full belly each night following the last Illuminata showing each evening. For £30 per head (10% discount for 10 or more), prepare to leave the modern world behind for a few hours and get stuck in to a good old-fashioned feast. If a banquet ticket is booked in advance the bearer will also receive free entry to the castle during the day as part of the Medieval Christmas Festival.
