A free bike and road safety event is being held during the summer holidays to reinforce important safety messages to children in Ystrad Mynach.
Young people between the ages of 10 and 18 are being invited to bring along their bikes to Penallta Park, Ystrad Mynach on Tuesday 11th August at 10am.
The Ystrad Mynach Neighbourhood Policing Team will be running the event, together with Communities First, Capita Symonds and the Caerphilly Council Youth Service's The Hub Team.
During the morning, young people will be taken through road safety and 'Dr bike' workshops and will have their bikes security marked.
Later in the afternoon they will be taken on a cycle ride, led by trained officers from Capita Symonds.
Anyone wanting to take part is encouraged to bring along their own bicycle and bicycle helmet, as well as a packed lunch. Communities First are providing spare bicycle helmets for anyone who doesn't have one.
Ystrad Mynach Neighbourhood Sergeant Andrew Massaro, said: "The free event aims to provide the children with a fun and healthy activity to take part in over the summer holidays. But it also comes with serious road safety messages, which will enable the children to ensure that they ride safely when they are out on their bikes. And by having their bikes security coded, it means that the bike can be easily identified and returned to its right owner if it's ever stolen."
Lorry Davies, Capita Symond's Road Safety Officer for Caerphilly County Borough said: "It is nice to be part of an event that will help and encourage children within the borough to become safer on their bikes whether using it for pleasure or as a vehicle to get to school or collage in September. We will be doing a Dr bike session along with Cycle Training Wales to highlight to the children simple safety checks that they can carry out to their bikes on a regular basis."
Sandra Hardacre, Chair of the Cefn Hengoed and Hengoed Communities First Partnership, said: "The Cefn Hengoed and Hengoed Partnership are very pleased to be involved with this initiative. We have a very big focus on providing activities for young people in the villages and hope that this day can lead on to further projects. We actively encourage young people to come along and enjoy this great community fun event."
