Young people from the Caerphilly county borough met fire fighters at Ebbw Vale Fire Station last week as part of a drive to tackle problems relating to anti social behaviour around Bonfire night.
The partnership event, organised by the Fire Service and Youth Offending Team, highlighted the danger caused by the inappropriate use of fireworks.
The youngsters took part in group sessions exploring the effect of playing with fireworks and the risk posed to themselves and the community. Theatrical make up students from Cross Keys College were also on hand to graphically demonstrate the shocking effects of burns to the body.
The young people were able to identify the dangers of their actions and the effects of fireworks on the people around them, and how dangerous bonfires can be.
The afternoon continued with a tour of the station and hands-on experience of some of the fire fighting and rescue equipment. The staff explained how anti-social behaviour could impair their ability to tackle fires during their busiest week of the year.
Finally, the young people completed a quiz at the end of the event and all scored highly proving they had taken on board the messages of the day. They all received a certificate for their good effort.
