The Welsh stage of the Tour of Britain was a huge success today - particularly the last phase of the race down to the finishing line in Caerphilly.

Crowds of people, as well as blue skies and sunshine, greeted the elite cyclists as they zoomed from Nelson to Caerphilly before tackling the daunting prospect of the climb to the top of Caerphilly Mountain.

The group set off from Welshpool earlier in the day to start the long trek down to Caerphilly, but the spectacular setting of the finishing line in the shadow of Caerphilly castle was a fitting finale to the event.

Norway's Thor Hushovd took first place in the stage.
