>The response to this year's Operation Santa appeal has been a big success with gift donations pouring in from kind-hearted people across the Caerphilly county borough.
Over 600 children in Caerphilly council's care, who are not supported by any other appeal, will benefit from these gifts and have an extra special Christmas this year.
However, the authority is also looking for help to ensure that young people who have recently left care also have a happy Christmas. There are a number of youngsters aged 16-20 who are in the 'leaving care' system. Very often they live alone, cut off from family support and dependent on state benefits.
As these young people are too old to receive toys, the council is appealing for local people to donate gift vouchers from the main supermarkets (Asda/Tesco/Morrisons) so that staff can use the funds to prepare food and gift hampers for distribution. Ideally we would welcome vouchers up to the value of £15.00.
Anyone who would like to help out with either the Santa Appeal for children or the voucher appeal for young people can help by phoning 01443 866577. Staff will advise callers on what they need to do to make a donation.
If you would also like to help Santa brighten a younger child's Christmas, then please call 01443 866577 or email operationsanta@caerphilly.gov.uk
