>A unique, relaxed, dining experience will 'pop-up' at various rural community venues across the county borough as the Caerffili Cwm a Mynydd RDP Partnership launches a new Community Pop-Up food initiative with the aim of promoting local produce and giving local people the opportunity to sample the culinary delights available on their doorstep!
In a real first for Caerphilly, community facilities will be transformed into one-off 'Pop-Up' dining venues in a bid to make local people aware of the fantastic produce grown, crafted and baked within the county borough. The project received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 – 2013 which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
Caerphilly County Borough Council is the first local authority in Wales to launch an initiative of this type, which will facilitate community involvement in the production, preparation and consumption of local food sources, whilst also promoting a healthy eating message, and providing a social link across all members of the community.
A pilot event at Rudry Parish Hall proved so successful that the idea is being rolled out across various locations around the county borough during the months of June and July, starting in Senghenydd. The events will also act as a showcase for some of Caerphilly's many rural community venues.
Jan Bennett, Group Manager of the Business Enterprise Support Team at Caerphilly County Borough Council looks forward to the first restaurant. She said, "The Community 'Pop-Up' dining initiative will create opportunities for local producers to showcase the diverse and exciting ways their produce can be cooked, combined and prepared, delivering a showcase for the true taste of Caerphilly county borough, and hopefully inspiring local people to get involved in local food projects".
As the event is free, booking is essential and residents are advised to check local press for details.
