Children in the Aber Valley have been busy during the summer learning new skills to play bowls.
In an attempt to get youngsters more interested in the game and also provide a variation to the usual summer holiday activities, members of the Senghenydd Bowls Club approached local schools to see if they would be prepared to let pupils attend coaching sessions, as part of the schools curriculum.
The headteachers of Nant y Parc Primary, Ysgol Ifor Bach and Cwmaber Juniors agreed to the proposal. A total of 102 children, aged between 10 and 11 participated in the coaching sessions, which took place on three afternoons a week at Senghenydd Bowling Green, during June, July and August. All the children enjoyed the experience.
Tuition was provided by coach Dave Pritchard, and supported by the Welsh Bowls Coaching Association.
The Caerphilly county borough has 19 council owned Bowling greens used by over 40 different Bowling teams.
