Churches and local groups that made this year's Caerphilly Flower Festival such a big success have been rewarded for their support.

A special award presentation took place this week (Wednesday 12th August) at Caerphilly visitor centre to recognise the hard work and effort of the seven churches and five local groups that participated in the Flower Festival in June.

The popular annual event, organised by Caerphilly county borough council's tourism unit and parks service, was a major success thanks to the support of local organisations.

All those involved received a special glass trophy from the Mayor, Cllr John Evans and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Ron Davies.

"The Flower Festival has become a highlight in our annual event calendar when the town centre comes to life with dazzling floral displays and attractions for all the family," said Cllr Ron Davies, "The support of these local groups is invaluable and we are keen to show our appreciation to everyone involved for making this year's event such a big success for local people and visitors alike."

Work is already started on next year's event and for the first time the festival will have a theme - the 1940s. For more information about this and other events in the Caerphilly county borough please call 02920 880011.
