Two councils are leading the way on the latest innovative approach to collaborative working.
Taking on the very latest in "cloud data" management, Caerphilly County Borough Council is providing a state of the art service to its neighbouring authority Newport City Council.
Companies as large as Amazon are advocating the use of the Cloud (remote online data storage) as the way forward for small businesses or large corporations; it enables innovation and reduces costs and better control of data.
This new approach to IT collaboration is embracing the use of Cloud computing, and will enable the service to be delivered across the Public Sector Broadband Aggregation (PSBA) network service.
Practically, this will let Newport City Council users access their applications through a web browser while processing and data storage is taking place at Caerphilly County Borough Council's Data Centre.
It is a model that sits in the broader concept of infrastructure convergence, thus facilitating shared services for both ICT and end user services. In order to achieve this project, staff from both organisations will work closely together.
Cllr Colin Mann - Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for Corporate Finance, Procurement & Sustainability for Caerphilly who is responsible for this area of work said, "This means we make the most of the technology and enhance each organisations ability to collaborate in a cost effective way, with further collaborations options being facilitated in the future."
Cllr Matthew Evans, Leader of Newport City Council, said "We recognised all councils need to consider the benefits of working together and this project sets out a fantastic opportunity for Newport to make significant savings bring forward innovation and deliver a better service."
The reports details are exempt as this work is at the cutting edge of technology and the commercial financial details need to be carefully managed to ensure both councils get the very best deal in for their organisations.
