Caerphilly County Borough Council is encouraging it's resident parents to think of the health of their wallets and the environment and join the growing number of people using 'real' cloth nappies.

A baby can use around 5,000 nappies before potty training which costs roughly £800, real nappies can cost as little as 10% of this, even more if you buy pre-loved!

Even if you add in £1 a week for an extra load of washing you can save over £500.

To help encourage parents Caerphilly County Borough Council's waste management team will be holding information events at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Ystrad Mynach on Monday 16th April between 9.30am-12.30pm and the White Rose Medical Centre in New Tredegar, on Wednesday 18th April between 12.30 and 2pm.

Parents will be able to see how modern real nappies differ from the terry towelling of yester year, find out about the benefits and enter a competition to win one of four nappy trial packs.

Mark Williams, Head of Public Services at Caerphilly County Borough Council said, "Cloth Nappies are now so easy to use and available in so many different styles and designs, there's a nappy to suit everyone. By using cloth nappies, a family can save 156 black bags from going to landfill per child, and with the savings they can gain, the impact on their finances will be great too".
