The Olympic torch relay countdown is on!

    With less than a month to go until Caerphilly gets its Olympic 'moment to shine' when the torch relay comes to town, preparations are well underway for celebrating the day!

    The Olympic torch relay comes to Caerphilly on Saturday 26th May and there are a number of different events being organised to encourage people to come along and get into the Olympic spirit!

    The torch will begin its journey on Watford Road at approximately 9.42am – it will travel along St Martin's Road, through Caerphilly town centre along Cardiff Road, turn left at the traffic lights near the Piccadilly and onto Nantgarw Road where it will complete its journey near the crossroads onto St Cenydd Road.

    Anthony O'Sullivan, Chief Executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council said, "The torch relay is fast approaching, and it will be a wonderful opportunity for residents from right across the county borough to come together and soak up the Olympic atmosphere. I would urge everyone to get involved, and join us as we cheer on the inspirational torchbearers in this once-in-a-lifetime moment to shine!'.

    Once the Olympic torch festivities are over, the fun will continue in Caerphilly with a series of events planned including.

    Officers from Sport Caerphilly will be continuing with the 'sporty' theme by hosting a fantastic 'Olympic Park' on Crescent Road, where visitors of all ages will be able to come along and try their hand at some Olympic sporting events!

    To complement the Olympic torch festivities, Caerphilly town centre will also play host to a Food Festival on Saturday 26th May.

    The high street will be adorned with a wide variety of food stalls, filling the town with delicious smells and sizzling sounds of a bustling food fayre!

    Foodies will be in their element as cookery demonstration programmes accompany the festival, offering insight and information on how produce is made and how to improve your own culinary skills – a feast of entertainment for all ages… and don't forget to watch out for the mad chefs and skating tomato!

    And who could forget the annual Flower Festival which takes place from 25th to 27th May which will bring an explosion of colour to local venues… the town sure is set to be a colourful and unique place to visit on 26th May, with lots of fun and activities for all!

    Park and Ride facilities will also be available at the former St Ilan School site on Saturday 26th May.
