Christmas Cheer for Castle Chocolates

    16 December 2008

A specialist chocolate company based in Caerphilly has received an early Christmas present with news that a major supermarket is to stock their products nationwide.

Castle Chocolates, based at Bedwas House Industrial Estate, produces hand-made chocolate treats including castle-shaped chocolates and luxury truffles.

The team has been working with Caerphilly county borough council over recent months to grow the business and develop an improved online presence. The council offered an ICT Grant to help buy updated computer equipment and it seems that the investment has paid off with the announcement of the Tesco contract success.

Castle Chocolates is the brainchild of self-confessed chocolate addicts David and Sue Hughes. Their penchant for fine chocolate meant they were regular visitors to Belgium and it was during a chance meeting with a Master Chocolatier on a trip to Bruges that the idea of Castle Chocolates was born.

The Tesco deal means that their sweet treats will be on sale in 43 stores across Wales. They have recently taken on 4 additional staff and hope to secure other retailing giants in the near future.

"We are delighted to have secured a contract with such a major national chain," said David. "We strive to produce the finest quality hand made chocolate and it is an amazing feeling to think that we only started out a few years ago and soon our goods will be on the shelves of Tesco stores across the UK."

"We would like to thank the council for their support and encouragement in helping to move the business forward. The grant was a big help and we now look to the future and hope to secure even more opportunities to market our products to chocolate fans everywhere," he added.
