Jess Amos has been working with the sustainable development team over the past year supporting schools working towards the Fairtrade Schools Scheme.
During 2009/10 Jess secured £10,000 CCBC beacon grant funding with the SD Team to purchase Fairtrade organic cotton bags to use at local events and workshops to promote Fairtrade and environmental issues to residents and schools within the Caerphilly county borough.
The project involved running Fairtrade workshops for 22 schools and supporting various education for sustainable development and global citizenship events and conferences by providing Fairtrade activities, presentations and displays.
Jess Amos also supports the Caerphilly Fairtrade Group working to promote Fairtrade throughout Caerphilly to residents, businesses, schools and community groups.
Volunteers from all walks of life were recognised for their dedication and hard work by the Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards in August 2010. There were nine different awards in total. Jess Amos was awarded the Environmental Volunteer Award for her work with the Fairtrade and environmental school workshops, the distribution of the organic Fairtrade cotton reusable bags and her work to stop single use plastic bags.
