A record number of colourful lanterns have been created over the past few weeks in preparation for this year's River of Light parade in Caerphilly town centre.

Over 1,000 local people of all ages attended the free weekend workshops held at Caerphilly Leisure Centre to make their lanterns ready for the big event this Thursday 17th December.

Children and adults from across the county borough used their artistic talents to design and build their own lantern which they will proudly display as the popular festive parade makes its way through the streets of Caerphilly.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the River of Light has gone from strength to strength. This year sees the addition of over 200 floating lanterns which will be released at the end of the parade as it reaches Crescent Road before the spectacular fireworks finale above the Castle.

Joining the paraders will be musical accompaniment from jazz band Wonderbrass, Caerphilly Samba, Samba Galez and Madd Dance School. This vibrant parade truly brings the town to life with thundering drumming and a sea of light.

Visitors are invited to watch the parade, which starts from Caerphilly Bus and Train station at 6.30pm.
