A rapidly-growing business based in the Caerphilly county borough is using the internet to full effect by launching a series of websites to help sell their range of products online.
Barry (GBR) Ltd set up base at Capital Valley Industrial Estate in Pontlottyn back in 2000. The firm sells a wide variety of products and was keen to explore new ways of reaching new markets.
The company has embraced eCommerce wholeheartedly and are now developing their fourth website. Their first site was developed last year with the help of an eCommerce Grant from Caerphilly county borough council and since then they have not looked back.
The initial site (www.slipperstore.co.uk) was developed to sell GBR’s range of slippers which are imported from China. These slippers are normally distributed through the retail multiples such as Debenhams and British Home Stores, but Manager Paul Norton recognised that there was always the opportunity to sell directly to the consumer through a website. In the first 12 months, the Slipperstore website registered more than 5,000 customers and now has a 6 figure annual turnover.
The firm launched a second website www.GBRworkwear.com, which is a new site specialising in Personal Protective Equipment such as safety hats, eye and ear protection etc. The third site www.sheepskinstore.co.uk will be launched before Christmas and, as the name suggests, it will specialise in selling sheepskin and leather products such as medical fleeces, hats, gloves and rugs.
Paul Norton is delighted with the success of these new sales channels, “We are really grateful for all the support from Caerphilly’s Bisnet team. Our fourth site is within reach and we have recruited a Website Manager to help us get the best of these exciting marketing opportunities working in conjunction with ‘str8 IT’.”
Paul’s business vision doesn’t stop here. He is planning to encourage more small businesses to take up the challenge of eCommerce and has constructed a Small Business Centre, which has been designed for use by other local businesses. From here, they can utilise Barry (GBR)‘s distribution facilities and share in their expertise from ‘pick and pack’ through to internet support and advice.
