Cefn Fforest Leisure centre is undergoing a major refit to extend the life of this well-used community facility.
The centre, which boasts a pool, fitness zone, dance studio and health suite, has been closed for a number of months while the council undertakes work to address structural problems within the building.
During the closure the authority decided to investigate the possibility of carrying out further improvements to make the leisure centre fit for the 21st century.
Specialist Consultants are replacing the tiling in the pool as well as giving the site a complete electrical refit. Other works are also underway to improve the look and feel of the building for future users.
"We are delighted that we can give the centre a new lease of life by undertaking these major improvements works," said Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education and leisure. "The council provides an impressive portfolio of leisure facilities for local residents and we are keen to encourage as many people as possible to lead a fit and active lifestyle. We now look forward to the re-opening of the centre later this year."
During the closure an alternative activity programme in the Cefn Fforest area has been developed which includes relocating fitness classes to Blackwood Comprehensive and Blackwood Miner's Institute. All other leisure centres are open as normal and the nearest centres to Cefn Fforest are Pontllanfraith, Newbridge and Heolddu.
