Lucille Price, a sixth form student at Cwmcarn High School, has been crowned Caerphilly County Borough Schools' Young Musician of the Year 2009.
Lucille won the title at the popular annual competition held at Blackwood Miners Institute on Saturday 7th March.
Lucille plays the Alto Saxophone, and impressed the judges with a brilliant account of the Sonata by Lunde.
Greg Williams, also a sixth form student at Cwmcarn High School, was awarded the title of Caerphilly County Borough Schools' Young Composer of the Year 2009 after submitting a composition called "Modern Rondo for Orchestra".
This year the event, organised by Caerphilly Music Service, saw over 170 entries from local comprehensive Schools.
The grand final was held in the evening where the winners of each of the six categories were competing for the overall title.

Each finalist received £50 prize money and £50 for their school. Lucille received £150 in prize money for herself and the same amount for her school. She was also presented with the prestigious winner's trophy by the mayor, Cllr Anne Collins.
The specialist adjudicators were Mervyn Burtch, Bethan Morgan, Vyvyan Brooks, Eva Stewart, Brian Raby and Patricia Keir.
CCBC Cabinet member for education, Cllr Phil Bevan said, "I'd like to congratulate all the finalists on their impressive achievements, particularly Lucille for her fantastic award-winning performance. This annual event helps showcase the talents of young musicians from schools across the area and the standard continues to improve year on year."
