Bargoed Miner's Gala!

    05 August 2009

This weekend Bargoed Park will be the venue for an exciting day of entertainment and family fun to celebrate the historic Bargoed Miners Gala.

The Bargoed Miners Gala will take place this Saturday 8th August from 10am until 5pm. What makes this event extra special is that this is the first time in over twenty years that South Wales has hosted a historic Miners Gala.

The Miner's Gala is a traditional celebration of mining life in South Wales; it will feature some entertainment that has over years gone by made the miners' gala the highlight of the mining community's year.

This FREE event will include a historic Miners Parade, live music with jazz, brass bands and local male voice choirs, rugby & tug-of-war tournament, giant vegetable competition, children's activities, piano smashing contests and much more.

Leader of council, Cllr Lindsay Whittle said, "I am pleased that this historic event will once again return to South Wales, particularly given that it is to be held in the magnificent location of our very own Bargoed Park.

I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to the Miners Gala to help celebrate South Wales' rich mining heritage."
