A primary school in Nelson is celebrating its centenary next week and pupils, staff and the wider community will be enjoying a range of events and activities to mark the special occasion.
Llancaeach Junior School has been busy preparing for the historic milestone and during May pupils collaborated with local artist Chris Partridge, from Mobile Arts Projects, to produce a mosaic to celebrate the last 100 years of Llancaeach. The children's artwork will also be featured on new signs for the front gates of the school.
On June 17th, former pupils are invited during the afternoon and evening to view a display of old photographs and registers available in the school hall. Members of the Choral Society that practice at the school every Monday will perform and further musical entertainment will also be available.
Then, on June 18th, a Bee Gees Tribute band (featuring a Year 4 pupil's father, Mr Ralphs) will play at the school during the evening. This event is open to children, parents, governors and staff at the school.
The big event takes place on Saturday June 20th when pupils of Llancaeach and Llanfabon Infants will meet at the Infants school at 11pm dressed in period costume from the last 100 years - or in Sci Fi costumes to show what pupils of the next 100 years might be wearing! They will then parade through Nelson and it is anticipated that there may be as many as 600 children and parents will take part. The aim is for the pupils to arrive at Llanceach Junior School yard for a Noon start of the Community Fete.
Finally, on Monday 29th June, pupils and their parents will attend two special Centenary services at St John's Church, led by Rector Reaney.
