>A Caerphilly County Borough Council employee is hoping to raise more than £1000 for breast cancer causes, by taking part in a marathon next month... in a bra!
Heulwen Fowler, who works in the Web team of the council's Communications Unit will be one of 15,000 walkers stepping out in style by wearing decorated bras on Saturday 16th May at the 12th Playtex MoonWalk in London.
The Playtex MoonWalk is organised by health charity Walk the Walk Worldwide; this, their flagship event raised in excess of £5.7 million last year alone, bringing the total to over £47 million in just 11 years!
Organiser and founder of Walk the Walk Worldwide, Nina Barough said, "The Playtex MoonWalk is about men and women taking charge of their lives by not only getting fitter themselves to take on this challenge, but by uniting in the common bond of making a difference to vital breast cancer causes. It is probably the most dynamic and awe inspiring night you could experience."
Heulwen will be joined by 4 friends from across the UK, two of which have a relative who has suffered from breast cancer.
Heulwen Fowler said, "It is going to be a massive challenge, but I've been training hard and I am determined to cross the finishing line to raise as much money as possible for such a worthy cause. I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone that has kindly sponsored me."
Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Lindsay Whittle said, "I am full of praise for Heulwen and the thousands of other participants for their determination to raise such a large sum of money for a fantastic cause. 1 in 9 women in the UK are expected to experience some form of breast cancer at some point in their lives, so fundraising events such as this have my full support."
