The mayor of Caerphilly county borough council has received a cash boost for her charity appeal thanks to a special rugby competition held recently.

Cllr Anne Collins accepted a cheque for £295 for her nominated charity – Save the Children (Caerphilly Branch). The money was raised during the 'Big Tackle' Rugby Tournament held at Caerphilly RFC.

Health Challenge Caerphilly, the Caerphilly Healthy Schools Scheme and the Sports Development Team from CCBC, worked together to deliver this annual event to promote awareness of sexual health amongst young men.

The festival of rugby was a tremendous success and teams were fielded from the county borough's secondary schools. The event culminated in a match between the Gwent Dragon's Development Youth Team and the Caerphilly Youth Team in the evening, playing for the Gary Hyatt Memorial Trophy.
