>Young coaches of the future were inspired when famous athletes Matt Elias (Olympic 400m runner) and Brent Pope (former professional ice hockey player) attended a special event at Penallta House recently to praise their commitment.
Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sports Development team is offering young people aged 16 – 19yrs a fantastic opportunity to pursue their passion for coaching. A new scheme called 'Coaches of the Future' has been developed and 26 young people from across the area have been selected to take part in the scheme, funded by the Sports Council Wales.
The coaches will have endless opportunities including courses, qualifications and hands on experience for one year.
Cllr Phil Bevan, Cabinet Member for Education and Leisure said, "The Coaches of the Future scheme was very well supported at the launch and it was a pleasure to listen to the contributions made by Matt Elias, Danny Thomas and Brent Pope who gave sound advice to the young people. I wish them all every success in their quest for coaching excellence."
