During National School Sports Week (NSSW) Ty Sign Primary School will welcome local school Trinity Fields and Pontypool-based Crownbridge school to soak up an Olympic atmosphere at their Paralympic Day on Thursday, 28th June in the school grounds.
Pupils from Foundation Phase through to Year 6 will be given the opportunity to try out various sports such as goalball, tennis, badminton, wheelchair basketball and many more.
They will also have a chance to re-create the Olympic Torch out of templates and make use of the 'Get Set' resources that are available to them as part of their registration.
With the Paralympic Games fast approaching, Ty Sign want to ensure that the Games have an impact on the children and who knows it may inspire them to become future athletes and Olympians!
Paul Roderick, a teacher at the school was inspired to arrange such an event to raise awareness of the Paralympic Games to encourage all pupils to come together as one, and have in mind the Olympic and Paralympic values throughout the day.
Head Teacher Alison Dacey says, "The London 2012 Games may be taking place in London, but it is important that schools are inspired to educated pupils about the Games and the legacy thereafter. Our aim is to provide a variety of sports that pupils may not have ever played and to encourage them to be more active, more often and to provide information on clubs outside of schools."
National School Sports Week will run during 25th - 29th June and further information on how your school and community clubs / centre can register and get involved is available on www.schoolsportweek.org.
