>Rhian Kyte, a team leader in Caerphilly County Borough Council's Development Plan team, has scooped Planning Leader of the Year from the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru.
Rhian received the award due to her innovative hard work whilst producing a Local Development Plan with her team - Caerphilly was the first county borough in Wales to adopt their plan.
She has also taken a leading role in collaborative planning projects, including chairing the South East Wales LDP Pathfinder Group since 2005, which has compared best practice at each stage of the new development plan system, and she has prepared and led workshops, groups and documents which have helped other local authorities implement their plans.
Rhian said, "I am extremely honoured and excited by this award. I believe the award recognises the work we have undertaken in Caerphilly in respect of the Local Development Plan and our collaborative work with other local planning authorities through the LDP Pathfinder Group. Clearly I could not achieve this on my own and I have an excellent team of dedicated and professional officers with whom I work."
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development congratulated Rhian on receiving the commendation, "Rhian has been instrumental in implementing a successful Local Development Plan. She has successfully managed her team to deliver above and beyond. Awards like this highlight the broad spectrum of talented staff working for Caerphilly CBC, and the continued commitment to deliver the best results to our residents".
Rhian received a certificate of her award at an Informal Networking event to launch the Wales Planning Conference, City Hall Cardiff.
