A raven sculpture, which is part of the Raven Walk, a 12-mile circular walk around Risca and Mynyddislwyn, has recently been stolen.
The raven is thought to have been taken at some point over the weekend of 9th and 10th February. It was found to be missing by Countryside Ranger Clive Jones who looks after the Raven Walk as part of his job.
Artist Rubin Eynon from Glynneath was commissioned to design and make one of the new raven sculptures, which was then installed before Christmas last year. It was placed in quiet beech woodland above the Darran in Risca.
The raven is seen peeking out from a book entitled "The Mabinogion - Ancient Welsh Folk Tales" and was inspired by the character from these tales, Branwen (which translates as "Blessed Raven").
The Countryside and Landscape Service was awarded an Active Lifestyles grant to re-waymark, produce a new leaflet and replace the old wooden Raven sculptures hidden along the walk. Walkers, after finding all four ravens on the walk, win a free badge.
Phil Jayne, Manager of the Countryside and Landscape Service said, "It's very disappointing that this wonderful piece of art has been taken. We had hoped that walkers exploring the countryside of Caerphilly County Borough would have enjoyed discovering it for many years to come. All we can hope is that it has been a prank and we would welcome its anonymous return".
