Midwifery service for domestic abuse victims

    16 February 2009

Caerphilly county borough's one-stop-shop for victims of domestic abuse and their families will soon offer professional midwifery support and advice for its clients.

The Safer Caerphilly Multi Agency Centre (MAC) will soon offer support in the form of antenatal clinics, advice drop-in sessions and "Parentcraft" classes.

Antenatal yoga classes will also run for clients at the MAC.

It is a sad fact that during pregnancy, a woman's risk of being a victim of domestic abuse increases threefold. This brand new service will therefore be a welcome addition to the centre, which provides a place where victims of domestic abuse and their families can seek help and support.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for the environment said, "This brand new support service at the MAC will bring so many additional benefits to people accessing the services of the centre. The centre is such a fantastic facility – I cannot praise enough the excellent work that goes on to provide support to victims of domestic abuse and their families."

To find out more, or if you or someone you know is affected by domestic abuse, please contact the Safer Caerphilly MAC on 01443 819317.
