Bargoed saw 9 businesses open in 2011 against 8 the previous year, and even better only 2 businesses closed versus 8 in 2010.
Retailer confidence has remained high in Bargoed due to the progression of the 'BIG Idea' regeneration scheme, the scheme will not just improve the road transport infrastructure but it will also include ambitious and far-reaching proposals that will help to transform the town centre of Bargoed and impact on the surrounding communities.
Andrew Highway, Town Centre Development Manager welcomed the news, 'It is important to recognise the significance of seeing new businesses open in Bargoed, this is a clear indication of growing confidence in the town. Throughout the process of change, the council has valued the support it has received from local retailers and the Bargoed Chamber of Trade. The next phases of the regeneration programme will introduce an exciting series of town centre enhancement proposals, through Hanbury Road, High Street and Upper High Street, creating new, improved public spaces, wider, safer pavements and new public artwork.
