The Valleys Relay for Life!

    25 June 2008

Why not come along, lend your support and help raise money for people affected by cancer at the Valleys Relay for Life event?

The marathon 24-hour event, which is set to take place in Bargoed Park on Saturday 5th July at 11:00am and continue through to Sunday 6th July at 11:00am, will have the primary aim of raising as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK, while at the same time providing a fun, enjoyable event for all involved.

The event will begin at 11:00am on Saturday 5th July with an official opening ceremony, which will be a celebration of local cancer survivors – anyone who has been affected by cancer will also be invited to walk a lap of honour of the park.

Gates will open to members of the public at 10:30am on the Saturday – it is hoped that the event will encourage large numbers of people along to provide support to the runners taking part in the relay, help raise money for Cancer Research UK and also have an all round enjoyable day.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by local bands and clubs including, Bargoed Male Voice Choir, Patrick Sheen Singers, Legacy and the New Cottage dance studio, to name just a few.

At 9:30pm on the Saturday, there will be a Candle of Hope ceremony, where candle bags will be decorated and then dedicated to people who are surviving cancer and to people who have sadly been lost to cancer.
