    13 March 2008

A new learning room for pupils, parents and the local community has opened its doors at Deri Primary School.

The resource library was officially opened by the Mayoress of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Mrs Margaret Veater M.B.E. on World Book Day.

Introduced as a result of the school's dedication to lifelong learning, the learning room is envisaged as being used by the pupils and their parents as well as by members of the wider community.

Western Power Distribution, Awards for all Wales, GAVO, C.B.C. Community Plan, the Welsh Assembly Government and WCVA all contributed financially to the well equipped learning room facility, which features a wide range of books, a projector screen and a number of computers.

A council spokesman said, "This is a great facility which will encourage the pupils to increase their general knowledge in a modern and inspiring learning environment."

Acting Head Teacher of Deri Primary School, Bethan Davies, said, "This is an excellent resource for our students, and on behalf of the school I wish to thank all the organisations involved for making this project possible."
