Pupils and staff at a school in Caerphilly County Borough returned to school after the Christmas holidays to find that heartless vandals had ruined their playground.
The damage was so severe in fact, that the children were unable to use the playground or the nursery classroom at Hendre Infants School in Caerphilly.
More than 40 bottles of vodka drink, along with numerous empty beer cans were also found smashed across the playground by staff at the school.
It is thought that the vandalism occurred on New Years Eve, when more than 15 youths were thought to have been drinking in the school grounds.
Head teacher of Hendre Infants School, Carol Joynson is devastated by the vandalism, and said, "I am staggered that anyone could do this to our school. Teachers, parents and pupils worked so hard on the garden and African Hut. Many different organisations gave us grants to build the area that has been destroyed."
Cllr David Poole, Caerphilly County Borough Council's cabinet member for the environment added, "I am appalled that anyone could be so heartless as to vandalise an area valued so much by the younger people of our community. Residents can rest assured that steps are being taken to ensure that the persons responsible for this awful crime are brought to justice."
Anyone with information relating to this incident are asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
