A Communities First event, which took place at a Caerphilly primary school, recently has been hailed as a resounding success, with almost 200 people attending the event.

The "On Your Doorstep" event, which took place on Friday 22nd February, was organised by the Van Communities First Partnership in association with St James' Primary School in Caerphilly, who kindly hosted the event in their school hall.

Over thirty different organisations took part in the event, including Gwent Police, various departments from Caerphilly County Borough Council and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service as well as participation from the local Scouts group and Ystrad Mynach College. Representatives from each organisation were also on hand to provide information and advice to visitors to the event.

Caerphilly County Borough Council's team of Community Safety Wardens were also present at the event, and brought along one of the county borough's state-of-the-art mobile CCTV vans - visitors to the event enjoyed watching a demonstration of how the mobile CCTV van works and its effectiveness in capturing criminal activity. The Community Safety Wardens were also on hand to offer advice on other community safety issues, as well as to answer any questions that the events participants had.

Cllr Tudor Davies, Caerphilly County Borough Council's cabinet member for the Regeneration said, "This excellent event is partnership working at its best - Events such as this give local people a clear picture of the organisations that are available to them "on their doorstep"; I sincerely hope that similar Communities First events will take place in the near future."
