Update – Works on the A472 (north of Hafodyrynys)

Repairs to a retaining wall on the A472 just north of Hafodyrynys, on the left hand side as you travel towards Pontypool, are continuing.

Part of the wall has been taken down and is currently being rebuilt. Calculations made on the existing wall show that it is not suitable to hold back the earth behind it.

CCBC are in discussion with the contractor to design anchors to hold the wall back. These works are due to commence next Monday, July 18th. In the meantime a combination of the contractor controlling the lights manually and road users using alternative routes have significantly reduced delay times.

CCBC apologises for the inconvenience of the traffic lights but it is considered necessary to ensure the safety of road users during this essential work.
