Caerphilly's Medieval Christmas Fayre promises to pull out all the stops this year. Reminiscent of days gone by, the town will transform itself into a bustling market for one weekend to celebrate Christmas with a medieval theme.
This year Cardiff Road will be closed to traffic on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th December and the street will be adorned with a variety of stalls; an alternative traffic route around the town has been implemented. Visitors can use the free park and ride facility at the former St.Ilan's School site on Pontygwindy Road, 9am – 5.30pm on Saturday and 10am – 4.30pm on Sunday.
Over 100 stalls will be dotted throughout the town; with over 50 stalls adorning Cardiff Road, 25 stalls within the walls of Caerphilly Castle, a Continental Market at The Twyn and a Farmers' Market at Twyn Community Centre. What better place to find an unusual Christmas present or that special ingredient for Christmas dinner. Visitors can browse a variety of stalls offering gifts, traditional crafts and replica medieval goods, along with tasty treats and food produce.
For great ideas on Christmas recipes visit the Medieval Cookery Demonstrations at the Visit Caerphilly Centre on The Twyn. Listen to experts as they discuss and demonstrate the preparation of medieval food dishes. Why not pick up some useful tips and alternative methods of preparing food for the Christmas period. As well as the great selection of stalls Caerphilly town's shops will be joining in the medieval magic with plenty of Christmas gift ideas.
There's lots more on offer in Caerphilly Castle such as a juggling jester, sword fighting skills and medieval living history displays. The town will have plenty of entertainment throughout the day including Lenny the Land train, Children's medieval craft workshops and medieval musicians and jesters.
