Nibbles hope to take a big bite of the catering market

    11 March 2010

A budding Aberbargoed-based entrepreneur is celebrating after securing grant funding to help her flourishing catering business grow.

Kimberley Griffiths, who set up Nibbles Catering in 2006 to provide catering for commercial customers and the general public, has been successful in gaining a South East Wales Local Investment Fund grant.

Kimberley initially ran the business from her own home, although the operation quickly outgrew the building and she soon needed bigger premises. Kimberley took on a unit at Bowen Industrial Estate in Aberbargoed and will use this grant funding towards the cost of setting up and purchasing essential equipment.

Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration said, "I am delighted that Kimberley has been successful in her bid for funding from the Local Investment Fund and it's great to see this grant stream benefitting another fledgling firm. It's also pleasing that we have such entrepreneurial people living within our county borough and I wish Nibbles Catering every success for the future."

The Local Investment Fund is a scheme that has been made available to 6 local authority areas in South East Wales. These local authorities have been awarded EU funding  under  the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)  through the Welsh Assembly Government to provide grant funding to businesses or business start-ups.

Local Investment Fund grants can be used to purchase capital equipment, for marketing, e commerce and ICT development and for external and internal building works and alterations.

To be eligible to apply for a Local Investment Fund grant, businesses must have less than 250 employees, and be in the manufacturing, service to manufacturing, business to business or tourism sector.

The scheme can fund up to 40% of eligible expenditure, normally to a maximum of £5000.

The Local Investment Fund South East Wales is a flexible grant scheme, which has been developed with the support from the Welsh Assembly Government through the European Regional Development Fund, under the 2007 – 2013 Convergence Programme.
