Caerphilly County Borough Council's zero tolerance approach to tackling environmental issues has resulted in three individuals being prosecuted for environmental-related offences during the last week.
Mrs Colleen Richards from Pontlottyn was taken to court and fined after she was caught allowing her dog to foul a public area in Pontlottyn, and then failing to pick it up. When non-payment of the Fixed Penalty Notice she was originally issued with occurred, the case was pursued through the courts.
The case was heard at Newport Magistrates Court on Thursday 9th June – Mrs Richards failed to attend court, therefore the case was proven in her absence. She was ordered to pay a fine of £175, together with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Miss Victoria Reece from Graig Y Rhacca was also taken to court and fined after she was caught allowing her dog to foul a public area in Graig Y Rhacca, and then failing to pick it up. When non-payment of the Fixed Penalty Notice she was originally issued with occurred, the case was pursued through the courts.
The case was heard at Newport Magistrates Court on Thursday 9th June – Miss Reece failed to attend court, therefore the case was proven in her absence. She was ordered to pay a fine of £175, together with £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Mr David Leighton Davies from Nelson was taken to court and fined for a littering offence. When non-payment of the Fixed Penalty Notice he was originally issued with occurred, the case was pursued through the courts.
The case was heard at Newport Magistrates Court on Thursday 9th June - Mr Davies pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £60 and ordered to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
Cllr Rob Gough, Cabinet Member for Public Protection said, "Prosecutions such as these really emphasise our commitment to tackling environmental issues such as dog fouling and littering. I hope that the small minority who feel it is acceptable to behave in such a manner will read this and understand that they will not get away with it".
He continued, "Where individuals fail to pay their fixed penalty notices, we pursue the case throughout court without exception".
