Outstanding volunteers across the Caerphilly county borough who work tirelessly to help others the have been honoured at a special awards ceremony.
This year's Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards, organised by the council and GAVO, saw a wide range of grassroots heroes recognised for the tireless work they carry out within the community.
The event took place at Blackwood Miners Institute this week and saw the Mayor presenting special awards to winners in various categories. The overall winner, named as 'Supreme Volunteer', was Ann Henderson from Graig Y Rhacca. Ann was described as being a pivotal member of the local community and has worked tirelessly in many capacities through different forums and groups to improve life for local people.

- Employer supported volunteer - Luke Sutton
- New volunteer - Robert Pritchard
- Millennium volunteers - Toni Jones, Delyth Williams and Thomas Hughes
- Millennium volunteers (Special Recognition) – Heolddu Comprehensive
- Practical service volunteer - Ann Phillips
- Environmental volunteers - Tarragan
- Gwent Police Young volunteer - Shona Smith
- Record-breaking volunteer - Florence Hopkins
- Fund-raising volunteers - Leanna Watkins and Jessica Harris
- Retired senior volunteer - Aneurin Williams
- Inspirational volunteer - Jeffery Howells
- Inspirational volunteer - Jamie Roberts
Mayor, Cllr John Evans, said, "It was a pleasure to get the opportunity to recognise the dedication and commitment of volunteers across the county borough. These people play an invaluable role in our community life and it is only right that we formally thank them for their outstanding efforts."
The event was sponsored by Campaign Newspapers and Gwent Police and the organisers would like to thank them both for their continuing support.
